ANOINTING
OF THE SICK
In
principle, the parish priests are responsible for the sick within
their own parish boundaries. In addition, Priests of the churches
closest to the main hospitals in Singapore are usually available for
any hospitalised Catholic who needs a priest's help. They visit the
hospitals on a regular basis to bring communion to the sick and if
informed they will visit you. See list below for easy reference:

In cases of emergency, when a patient is in need of the Anointing
of the Sick and a priest from the nearby church is
unavailable, any priest who receives a call will go to the hospital
or look for a replacement if he is unable to do so. In such a
situation, the priests of Sts. Peter & Paul can be contacted any
time of the day or night.
The
Anointing of the Sick can
be administered to any Catholic who is seriously ill and caregivers
should not wait until the patient is critically ill or when death is
imminent to notify a priest.
Priests
are also available for home visits and prayers when the sick person
is confined to bed at home.
IMPORTANT:
Please
provide CORRECT information of Hospital, Ward, Bed and Name of
patient to whom the Anointing of the Sick will be ministered.
The
Anointing of the Sick is for BAPTIZED CATHOLICS only. Please do not
impose your faith on an unwilling patient. The ministering of the
Anointing of the Sick is NOT a healing charm.
If the patient
has already received the sacrament during his / her time in the
hospital / home, the patient DOES NOT need to receive the sacrament
again.
The ministering of the sacrament is NOT TO BE ABUSED.
Please have the faith to know that the healing power of Jesus is
infinite and sincere. The person could undergo a healing process
that might not be physical - but spiritual or emotional.
There
have been instances when the above were not observed. This resulted
in priests being unable to minister the Anointing to patients who
truly needed the sacrament urgently.
